Welfare

Here at the Bradford on Avon Swimming Club we ensure that our swimmers come first. It is essential that we operate in a safe and secure environment for swimmers to train and compete. With a responsible committee, fully trained and qualified coaches and safeguarding and protecting club members, the Bradford on Avon Swimming Club is a fun and friendly environment for everyone involved.

The responsibility to safeguard children in our club and related activities lies with all those involved in the sport and is not the sole responsibility of any one person at club, county or national level.

Committee Responsibilities

Bradford on Avon ASC is run by a volunteer committee whose legal responsibility is to make sure that the club has effective welfare and safeguarding policies and procedures in place and that it monitors and complies with them. Policies are available to parents and swimmers. It is also the responsibility of the committee to ensure that all staff and volunteers working with children are DBS checked to ensure they are safe to work within the club. The committee ensures that the club has effective procedures for handling allegations of abuse.

Parents & Carers Information

Photos and Video: With most members having access to mobile devices, the recording of swimming both in training and competition needs to be controlled.  In line with Swim England guidance we request that permission to take photos and video at either BOA pool or the Bath STV during training must be obtained from the pool operator in the first instance and then the coach should be informed (depending on event type).  At galas and open meets, permission can be obtained from the event organiser.  It is also wise to advise the poolside coaches of your intention.

Swimmer Supervision: Parents and Carers remain responsible for the safety and behaviour of their own children when not in the pool, this includes the wider pool property (inside and out) as well as the changing rooms.  For clarity, the coaches and teachers are only responsible for swimmers in the pool during their allocated swim session.  We advise parents and carers of young swimmers (aged 11 and under) to remain on site throughout the swim session.  It is not acceptable for parents to drop children off and comeback later to pick them up.

Changing Rooms: At BOA pool we follow the pool operators guidance in that children seven years and over must get changed in the changing room according to their gender.  At the Bath STV, a mixed changing area is provided.  Please ensure swimmers use the provided cubicles.  At both venues the use of lockers is strongly recommended for the safe keeping of personal belongings.
